Longueville Manor, Jersey
Date of visit : A number of times, but the latest in August 2019..
Having travelled to Jersey on a few occasions in the past, once for a birthday celebration, and each time staying at the fabulous Longueville Manor, we decided to pop over again this August for a short weekend…who needs an excuse?!
Originally an old manor house that has been lovingly restored and extended to incorporate 30 bedrooms, this fantastic boutique “Relais & Chateaux’ property is the epitome of old English country manor from a bygone era. Sitting in their splendid garden being served traditional afternoon tea, is something straight out of a Jane Austin novel, with the exception of the beautiful heated swimming pool of course!

The smooth running and attention to detail of the property is down to the amazing GM Pedro Bento, an absolutely charming gentleman, he really is Longueville Manor, and it’s literally running through his veins! With such an affable manner his clients absolutely love him, as do his professional staff, and there’s a wonderful vibe on entering the property. This really is a 5* experience.

Rooms at the hotel again are designed in the English country manor style, with sumptuous beds topped with heaps of feather pillows, fireplaces, thick luxurious drapes and elegant bathrooms. The theme continues in the public spaces, especially the hotel bar and sitting room, with their leaded windows and beautiful furnishings. The property sits in an 18 acre estate comprising of woodland, gardens and an ornamental lake. Most of the land is to the rear of the property, as the entrance to the hotel is accessed from the main road. It’s about 10 minutes in a taxi to St Helier itself, as the hotel is situated in the area known as St Saviour. There is also a bus stop not far from the main entrance.

The main draw for us to the property is the incredible and delicious food. Being a member of Relais & Chateaux speaks for itself. With spectacular dishes being presented each evening in the elegant dining room, the team of chefs wow you away with mouth-watering creations. Many of the ingredients are sourced from the hotel’s own kitchen garden, which the head gardener is more than happy to guide you around, all organic and fresh. Breakfast is an affair, with crisp white tablecloths, thick Jersey cream yoghurts, and tea served through a strainer from the obligatory china tea pot. We all agreed that everything we tasted was heaven on a plate. There is an extensive wine cellar at the property with a myriad of different choices, and the Sommelier is happy to talk you through his suggestions.
New additions at the property include a small gym, literally a cross trainer and a multi gym plus some free weights, and a spa offering various treatments and massages etc.
If you haven’t been to Jersey and are considering a weekend away, then we absolutely recommend this beautiful hotel. Jersey has quite a few sightseeing opportunities, and Pedro will be more than delighted to recommend places to visit. The hotel even have their own yacht for charter too if you fancy splashing out! Weddings can be arranged too, while we were there a bride walked through, and what a perfect location for an English summer wedding…
